Making Grants and Distributing Funds
The Fenton Area Public Schools Education Foundation (FAPSEF) is responsible for ensuring that all monies that are granted are appropriately used and handled. To that end, the following procedures have been established to meet all IRS rules.
The FAPSEF's Board of Directors has established March 1st of each year as the final deadline for grant applications for the following school year. All grant applications must be submitted via an email to fapsef_grants@fenton.k12.mi.us. Please use the official application at the bottom of this page. Applications will be reviewed and judged based on the foundation's mission statement. The Board of Directors will decide on a yearly basis how many applications will be accepted.
All grant applications must clearly align with the mission statement of the FAPSEF. All unused funds must be returned to the foundation at the end of the grant time period. All grant monies must be spent within two years of receipt of funds.
Grant applications must be in the format specified by the FAPSEF. The application can found at the bottom of this page. Applicants may be requested to be present during the March or April FAPSEF board meeting to answer questions regarding their application.
The applicant is responsible for keeping financial records regarding their expenditures and submitting them to the FAPSEF Treasurer on a monthly basis. Any expenditure beyond the amount of the grant will be the personal responsibility of the applicant and not the FAPSEF or the Fenton Area Public Schools. If the total monies have not been spent within two years from the date of the grant, the applicant will be required to return the unspent funds to the FAPSEF.
It is the intent of the FAPSEF to be in alignment with all the policies of Fenton Area Public Schools regarding gift-receipts. The Fenton Area Public Schools' Board of Education must provide final acceptance to all gifts provided by the FAPSEF. The FAPSEF will present all grants to the board of education during their April meeting.
Upon completion of the project specified in the grant application, the applicant will prepare a report to describe the impact of the project. This report can either be a formal presentation or a written report to the FAPSEF board.
All applicants will provide the FAPSEF with permission to release information regarding the grants to the media and other education related organizations.
