International Baccalaureate

The Cornerstone of a Great Education

At the heart of the Fenton Area Public Schools Education Foundation's mission is the advancement of the school's academic programs through the authorization process of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. The focus of this well-established and international-minded curriculum promotes the education of the whole person, emphasizing intellectual personal, emotional, and social growth through all domains of knowledge. Three age-defined programs (PYP grades K-5,
MYP grades 6-10 and DP grades 11-12)
encompass the continuum of education from
3 to 19 years of age, allowing every child,
no matter their ability, the opportunity to
develop a positive attitude toward
learning in a high quality educational
environment.

What is so special about the International Baccalaureate Program?

  1. IB programs are recognized around the world and ensure an increased adaptability and mobility for IB students.
  2. The curriculum and teaching style of the IB programs focus on the international perspective of learning and teaching while insisting that students fully explore their home culture and language.
  3. IB World Schools must undergo an exhaustive authorization process in order to offer one or more of the programs. The process includes a study of the school's resources and commitment to the IB mission and philosophy.
  4. IB teachers participate in a wide variety of professional development opportunities to continuously update their knowledge and share their expertise with colleagues around the world.
  5. Many students graduating from the Diploma Program find that it enhances their opportunities at higher learning institutions. The IB works closely with universities around the world to gain recognition for their programs.
  6. The core components of IB programs encourage students to participate in creative and service-oriented activities while at the same time emphasizing the importance of reflection on a personal and academic level.
  7. Three age-defined programs encompass education from 3 to 19 years of age, allowing every child, no matter their ability, the opportunity to develop a positive attitude toward learning in a high-quality educational environment.
